Sound Absorbents
from QL Marine Accessories
by Volvo Penta
|
Reduce excess engine noise with Sound Absorbent foam. An exceptional
value, these panels are:
· Fire resistant - withstands temperatures up to 200°C
/ 390°F
· Covered in an oil-resistant foil
· Handy size: 20" x 40" (5.4 sq ft per sheet)
· Can easily be cut with a sharp knife
· Self adhesive
· Available in three thicknesses: 3/4", 1 1/5",
and 2"
· Economical
The panels are made of recycled polyurethane foam with a density
of 6.24lb per cubic foot. The weight and porosity both insulates and
absorbs engine sound. The oil-resistant foil is easy to clean.
Easy installation for both DIY and professional use: just measure,
cut, peel away the sheet protecting the self-adhesive and press into
place.
We recommend the use of foil tape to cover the seams. For best sound
reduction, the joints must be as tight as possible - sound travels
very well through air and even the small cracks will let sound escape.
The tape also helps keep oil and other contaminants from penetrating
the foam.

Sound Absorbtion diagram
According to DIN 52215

This graph shows the Sound Absorption Coefficient (alpha) as a function
of engine noise frequency (100-8000Hz). Alpha is the ratio of sound
energy absorbed by a material to the sound energy striking the material.
A value of zero is perfectly reflective (ECHO!!!!) and a value of
one is perfectly absorbing. Based on the frequency of the sound you
want to absorb, pick the thickness of material that will do the best
job.
This product has been thoroughly tested by Volvo-Penta and meets these
regulations: ISO3795 and FMVSS302 for fire resistance. This material
has an Oxygen Index of 24% according to ASTM D2863-91 and fulfills
ISO 4589-3.
